Description: This course provides a short introduction to sail cruising for novices. By the end of the course, you will have experienced steering a yacht, sail handling, rope-work and be aware of safety on board. The Start Yachting course is, in effect, the first 2 days of the Competent Crew course

New to sailing or new to yachting, this is the ideal introduction to what sailing a yacht is all about. You'll spend two days aboard our modern yacht, where you will be fully involved in the running of the boat.

New sailors looking to confidently take on the challenge of a flotilla holiday
Dinghy sailors moving up to sail yachts
The Course includes:
2 days sailing aboard our sailing yacht.
Expert instruction and supervision
Real life taster of what cruising in a yacht is all about.
The time spent onboard goes towards your "Competent Crew" Certification.
Competent Crew: Basic seamanship & helmsmanship
Course type: Practical
Description: This course aims to introduce the complete beginner to cruising. To teach personal safety, seamanship, helmsmanship to the level required to be a useful member of a cruising yacht

Confident at steering and handling the yacht under sail and power
Knowledgeable in trimming the sails
Aware of all safety aspect about the boat and how to operate emergency equipment

Day Skipper: Basic seamanship & introduction to navigation and Meteorology
Course type: Theory
Description: A comprehensive introduction to chart work, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship for Competent crew.
Duration: 40 hours plus exam time
Prior experience required: none
Suggested pre-course experience: some practical experience / Basic Navigation & Safety
Suitable for: Experienced sailors looking to extend their knowledge.
Course includes:
Introduction to chart work, navigation, meteorology and seamanship.
Learn how to figure out tidal heights and streams and how they affect your course.
How to identify the 'give way vessel' when there is a risk of collision, 'dead reckoning' and 'estimated positions'.
Please note that it is essential that you have some previous sailing experience before attending the RYA Day Skipper Theory course.
Day Skipper: Basic pilotage, boat handling, seamanship & navigation
Course type: Practical
Description: Aims to teach pilotage, navigation, seamanship, and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper a yacht by day in familiar waters.
Duration: 5 days
Prior experience required: Basic navigation and sailing ability.
Suggested pre-course experience: 5 days, 100 miles, 4 night hours on board a sailing yacht.

Those seeking a recognised qualification in yachting
To be able to sail bareboat
To be able to charter a boat
Those that have or will be getting their own boat and are looking to gain confidence
Those out to become more confident and to be able to go further a field
Those looking to explore the area with the security of having an experienced skipper onboard
New sailors so that they can confidently take on the challenge of a flotilla holiday
Dinghy sailors moving up to sail yachts
On this 5 day, yacht–based course, you will become:
Confident in decision-making with respect to all aspect of handling and navigating the yacht
Skilled in passage planning and its deployment
Conversant with the Rules of the Road and how they apply in every day situations
Qualified to apply for an International Certificate of Competency
A confident yachtsman/woman!
Coastal skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore: Offshore & coastal navigation, pilotage and meteorology
Course type: Theory
Description: This is an advanced course in navigation and meteorology for candidates for the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate. Duration: 40 hours plus exam time
Prior experience required:Navigation to Day skipper shorebased standard
Suggested pre-course experience: Day skipper theory (shore based course)
Suitable for: Highly experienced sailors looking to take their final qualifications
Course Includes:
Increase your accuracy and gain an in–depth knowledge in navigation, meteorology and seamanship.
Expand on the knowledge already achieved at Day Skipper level.
Learn about stability and passage making offshore.
Undertake three assessments – meteorology Chart work and ‘Rules of the Road’.
Coastal Skipper: Skippering techniques for coastal & offshore passages
Course type: practical
Description: This is the first of the advanced courses in which you will undertake longer coastal passages and navigating at night. Skippering a yacht offshore requires you to have strong and confident leadership skills with complete faith in your seamanship and navigational skills, regardless of what “Mother Nature” decides to put your way.
Duration: 5 days
Prior experience required: Navigation to Coastal Skipper standard. Sailing to Day Skipper, Practical standard.
Suggested pre-course experience: 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours
Suitable for:
Those seeking a recognised qualification in yachting
To be able to sail bareboat
To be able to charter a boat
Those out to become more confident and to be able to go further afield.
Those looking to explore the area with the security of having an experienced skipper onboard
On this 5-day yacht-based course you will become:
Confident in your decision making with respect to all aspects of handling and navigating the yacht
Skilled in longer offshore passage planning and its deployment
Conversant with the Rules of the Road and how they apply in every day situations
Confident in night sailing and watchkeeping
A confident “coastal” yachtsman/woman!
Yachtmaster offshore (preparation): Yachtmaster is the senior qualification for leisure and commercial yachts of less than24 meters.
Course type: practical
Description: A 5 day course developing and polishing skills and techniques of crew management, safety techniques, boat handling, passage planning and making.
Duration: 5 days
Certification required before examination: Ristricted (VHF only), Radio operator’s certificate, First aid certificate.
Suggested pre-course experience: 50 days seatime, 5 days as skipper, 2500 miles, 5 passages over 60M, Including 2 overnight and 2 as skipper.
Suitable for:
Those seeking the highest recognised qualification in yachting
To extend bareboat range in time and distance
To charter the largest yachts up to 24m
Those honing and developing advanced skills
On this 5-day yacht-based course you will become:
A mature leader utilising your experience in yacht preparation, passage planning and pilotage, crew management and yacht husbandry. Skilled in tidal and weather tactics for extended cruising
Competent to Skipper a yacht on any passage no more than 150 miles from harbour.
Experienced in night sailing, watch keeping and shipping lanes
An accomplished cruising yacht skipper
